So considering that I haven't stopped listening to them for over a month, it is high time that write a post about The Red River.
At first listen Grassblades seems like just some other folk album. The melodies are derived from standards like Go tell it on the Mountain. While the songs are derived from existing songs, they are by no means anywhere as shallow as the songs that they have been influenced by. The sheer strength of the lyrics exhibited in Something Good is almost impossible to express in writing. The whole album speaks to anybody. It expresses a plethora of moods: elation, depression, and praise. The more you listen to Grassblades, the more you like it. So go listen.

This is how I feel every day.
So in the last couple of weeks, I have been in a funk. If it wasn't for some beautiful tunes, I would not have been able to get through it so easy. I still am in a bit of a weird mood, but whatever. The brilliance of Annie Clarke is beyond me. I don't understand how anyone can think of such intricate and beautiful songs in their head. Even her cover of Nico's These Days is one of the most beautiful songs that I think I have heard in a long time.
St. Vincent-Paris Is Burning
Another band that is astounding my senses is the Portland duo, Tu Fawning. Corrina Repp's voice combined with her partner Joe Haege's results in one of the most beautifully haunting combinations that I have ever heard. What ties the whole package together is the funk-derived drum beats and vintage samples. I could not ask more from this magnificent city of roses that I call home.

So the Photo-blog failed.
But I don't care! I can just turn this into a music blog! Or something. Anyways I can at least gripe about what I feel like griping about right? Thats what I thought. Nobody reads this anyways. So. Last night was one of the best nights in recent memory. I danced on chairs, I played my trumpet loudly, I made new friends and more firmly established older friendships. And I feel that for the first time in a while, I am quite content with my life. Except for that one thing...
Anyways this is my song of the now. After Hours It's a good ol' Velvet Underground song.
